A couple of months back I was honoured to help out a wonderful friend named Ashlee with some design work for a fundraiser she was hosting to raise money for HeartKids.
HeartKids support children with heart disease and their families. Working with health professionals, Heartkids also fund life-saving research, advocate and inform. For more information, see heartkids.org.au
Ashlee’s heart-child Harper was born in Westmead Children’s Hospital 2 ½ years ago. Ashlee and her husband Matt say that “The information, care bag and visits from the HeartKids family support coordinator were invaluable at the time and we’re just so grateful for the support we received from HeartKids”. They decided “that once things settled down with Harper we’d put some energy into giving back so other families would be able to receive similar care and support from HeartKids.”
In the 2014 ‘Cuppa for HeartKids campaign’, Ashlee raised a total of $6,780 by hosting a joint event in the Hunter Valley in September – a high tea for the ladies and a barefoot bowls day for the gents. Money was raised through tickets sales, raffles and donations. I was more than happy to help Ashlee out with designing a Thank You Card and ‘Harper’s Story’ Booklet for her high tea event, and was so touched when she organised a thank you certificate to be sent to me. It’s always nice to be able to use my skills to benefit others and is something I hope to do more of in the future.
